When Shug Jones co-founded Tesserae Mosaic Studio in 2001, she moved from being a fine art painter to working in mosaic. Shug creates work in many genres, however, her specialty is representational art, with a focus on figurative works and portraiture, where she is able to capture an amazing likeness of the subject.
Shug has taught Mosaic 101, Murals, Portraiture, and Realism Workshops across the US and in Australia. She has studied mosaics in Venice, Italy under Maestra Antonella Gallenda at the Angelo Orsoni Smalti Veneziani Foundry and in Cuernavaca, Mexico under Instructor Giuseppe Semeraro, as well, as with well-known mosaic artists, Maggy Howarth and Gary Drostle. Shug has studied portraiture with noted artists Daniel E. Greene, NA and James Tennison.
Ms. Jones is a member of the Plano Art Association (Past President), the British Association of Modern Mosaics and has been on the Board of Trustees of the Society of American Mosaic Artists (SAMA) since 2007, where she currently serves as President.
