Tesserae Mosaic Studio, Inc. was founded in 2001 by co-owner Shug Jones as a custom design studio where clients could have created for them original one-of-a-kind mosaic art pieces. Shug Jones and Julie Dilling work with designers, architects, builders and homeowners to develop a project that they will then execute in their studio and later install in the client’s chosen environment. When designing a mosaic, the artists consider the pattern, color, texture and andamento that will be expressed in their creations. Tesserae’s mosaics are created using the finest materials from around the world as they employ contemporary methods and tools to produce timeless pieces of art. Using glass, stone, ceramic, and smalti, the artists work together on each mosaic allowing the tesserae to waltz together in a rhythmic dance across the surface. Their work is varied, as they are inspired to produce contemporary and modern ideas, to design realistic painterly works of art or to reinterpret ancient mosaic patterns. Tesserae Mosaic Studio, Inc. has produced mosaics as small as 6” x 8” fine art pieces and as large as a 6’h x 72’w historically themed public art installation. They have installed their work throughout the United States.
